This guy gets a lot of his information wrong. But it’s mostly in the details. Regarding the selection a lot of it is very secretive. Initial selection is, to my understanding, pretty similar to what this guy says. But! Of course it doesn’t end there. There’s going to be a kind of qualification course after that. It’s been several years since I left my employment at one of the ranger regiments, so I don’t remember much and I don’t remember how much was actually kept secret about selection either. But I’m guessing that the qualification course is somewhere around a year long. I’d guess that you can still be eliminated from the course at any time during that period. One thing I’ll add is that personnel from all military units can apply. People from our ranger units are likely (still) in the majority but application is allowed from all service branches. If your commanding officers are not willing to give you a great recommendation you will likely not be called to the initial selection either. I might be wrong, in our armed forces things change often. But one thing I’m very certain of is that these elite operatives are not selected by a two week field exercise. There’s a lot more to it than that.

Like mentioned in older comments already, that sub-300k troops is just the fresh-outta-oven, "fresh" wartime-ready troops. Counting the older members of the reserves, the total amount of troops is a staggering 900k. Pair that with the recent studies showing over 80% of Finns being ready and willing to defend their country, with some >300k registered gun-owning hunters and sports shooters lurking amongst the population, and now the protection of NATO's article 5 + improved information networks and logistics... let's just say attacking Winland would be a suicide.

A funny story... I went to Navy bootcamp in San Diego which was seperated from MCRD & the airport by 10' fence's. There was a recruit (not in my company) that decided to go AWOL and jumped the fence but it was the wrong one and landed on MCRD and was caught. They called and his asked his Company Commanders CC's/and the Division heads how they wanted to handle it... Well they said he must've wanted to join the Marines so jeep him for a week or two then let him decide which place he wanted to go to.... LOL

This is the reason why you wear a helmet... After soldiers started using helms in the first world war, there were a huge increase in soldiers getting injured to the head. The reason? The helmet stopped them from dieyng, and has most likely saved the frogman in the videos life as well.

The British seem far more civil, and they obviously produce high-quality soliders. I think I'd rather enlist with the British.

I've noticed generally that younger foreign visitors to the UK are often massively disrespectful - recently saw a group of Spanish teens aggressively shove aside an elderly couple and grab the train seats they were about to sit in. They were laughing as they did it. Just one of many things I've seen - lots of tourists where I live.

to me it feels like brainwashing "without question". in many countries, like the Netherlands, soldiers are required to be able to think. shouting is compensation for something lacking......

Everyone in Sweden got a free phone book. In that phone book there where about 20 pages of information on what to do in case of war. It read like a modern preppers handbook. Store food, water and batteries. Figure out how to keep warm (gather in one room of the house). Listen to the radio for official information. It also ended: "All information about Sweden surrendering will always be false". In our constitution we have formulations about Swedes not being allowed to surrender. That pamphlet was updated and modernized and sent out to every household in Sweden a couple of years ago. It became world news because most people thought that Sweden was a country of peace and no weapons when in fact we where one of the most militarized countries in the world during the cold war. At this exact moment when i write this there are contractors upgrading the bomb shelter in my apartment complex to modern standards.
